I don't see how I could take 80mgs of Lipitor daily. I tried taking
20mg Lipitor a few years ago and experienced severe leg cramps, so I
went back to Pravachol. Guess I'm stuck.

You're right though - more fodder for the statin wars.

How do statins compare to Aspirin? Both statins and Aspirin are anti
imflamatories. Aspirin probably does not reduce Cholesterol but cholesterol
has not been shown to "Cause" atherosclerosis. Half of people with CAD have
average or below average cholesterol.

I don't see how I could take 80mgs of Lipitor daily. I tried taking
20mg Lipitor a few years ago and experienced severe leg cramps, so I

Same here!! High dose Lipitor was a disaster for me. I felt like i was
beat with a club. No way i'd come near that again.

This is a great question, so I did some www.pubmed.gov searching and came
up with an interesting study.

Aspirin has been shown to 'attenuate' or increase the rate of carotid
intima media thickness (CIMT) regression in type 2 diabetics. As to how it
does this, and if this mechanism is similar to the statin, I don't know.

They just spent a lot of money to show Lipitor was better than a
competing statin. You are going to ruin their whole plan by bringing
up another alternative that is dirt cheap compared to their competing
statin. Remember it is their market share that is most important. Get
the patients money.
