I meant producing my own rather than picking holes in someone else's. Should
have been clearer in my OP.

Obviously it's a very wide area with many domain applications (and hence
subsets of favorite statistical tools) but you could take a look here:

http://statschoices.open.ac.uk/

Then lookup some of the reference material for the courses.

If you don't mind old fashioned paper the classic book is "Facts from
Figures " by Mooney. Google suggests that copies are available for a
pound or so.
