Hi Steve, it is nice to see you again. I remember when you quit
smoking, but I have a hard time believing it was almost 9 years ago. I
was so proud of you and I am glad you were able to quit. Did you ever
learn to read Japanese kanji?

Hi Sheldon,
Thanks for the offer, but this guy has never/will never present the
opportunity. All we know about him is that he is Austrailan living in
New Zealand, and has never been to Thailand or the US.

By the way, I don't think he has knees.... That would imply that he
walks upright.

Hi Becca,
Time flies when you're having fun! But I still don't think of if as "I
quit." If I do that, I'd be too tempted to 'have just one.' So I say
'I haven't smoked' during these years. If it works for AA, it can work
for me. One Day at a Time! There is no question that if a doctor
told me I had only a year to live, the first thing I'd do is run down
to the store and buy a carton. Old habits are hard to break.

As for kanji, I learned about 150 of them, but then moved to Thailand.
Had to go through the whole process of learning a NEW language!
Unfortunately, Thai is a tonal language with five different tones....
and I'm deaf as a stone! But the Thais are pretty good at figuring out
what we 'farang' are trying to say, do it doesn't cause more than a
good laugh. One day in a favorite restaurant I ordered (and I'll spell
this out phonetically,) nua taud gratiem prik thai la kow. The waiter
began to laugh but took my order to the kitchen. He came back and
asked me what I 'thought' I had ordered. "Beef with garlic and Thai
peppers over rice," I replied. He grinned and explained that in fact I
ordered 'Beef with garlic and small boys.'
I suppose if they are properly fried..... :o)

3-4 guys. They just keep changing addresses as old ones get canceled
out. I have most of them blocked in my readers so I don't even notice

Hi Koko! Nice to see you're still here too. But as I said... I didn't
quit. I just didn't smoke today, and pray I won't smoke tomorrow. One
day at a time.
Nobuko is fine and enjoying her new found freedom from Japanese
traditions, although last year she was the vice principal of the
Japanese school here. (There are over 4,000 Japanese living in this
town because of all the Japanese owned factories here; Hoya, Kyocera,
etc. 12 of 'em!) Chiang Mai continues to evolve. It's now "Spa
Central" for SE Asia, with an average of 2.7 luxury health spas per
block.... but no tourists to use them. Great bargains to be had on
cappuccino massages, hot peanut butter massages, and even espresso
high colonics.... The mind boggles! :o)
