When I adjust the tension for the rear derailleur so that the chain
shifts smoothly between the smallest cogs, the tension seems to be too
high when shifting among the largest ones (the chain attempts to climb
onto the next larger cog.) When I adjust the tension so that the chain
shifts smoothly between the larger cogs, it seems to be too low when
shifting among the smaller cogs (I need to nudge the shifter to move
the chain to the next larger cog.)
I have not replaced any components that would affect the shifting
other than replacing the derailleur cable. I've checked to see that
nothing is binding. The chain is relatively new and has been recently
lubed. I have flushed the shifter with WD-40 to no avail. I can feel
and hear the normal clicks when I move the shift lever.
The shifter is an Ultegra 9spd, the rear derailleur is an Deore XT and
the cogset is a Shimano 11-34T. Any ideas as to what might be wrong?
TIA,
Harry
