A long shot, I know, but one has turned up on our street in Ramsgate (now in the kitchen). Obviously a hack bike, but with some fairly serviceable bits on it: the (purple) frame is steel and a very large size (60+cm); with Ambrosio 'Gentleman' rims on Miche hubs built by our very own Harry Rowland (back when he was London-based, going by the phone number); other recognisable parts include Stronglight cranks and some fairly new Tektro dual-caliper brakes.
The bike is nothing special, but looks like it's been fairly well used, and may be missed.
Otherwise it's going on my turbo trainer (with the saddle lowered).

According to http://www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q245.htm: You should liaise with your local police station. It maybe that you want to hold onto the property on the understanding that if the owner comes forward you must relinquish it or you can hand it in at your local police station. If you choose to hand it in then you will be given a form that entitles you to collect the property if it is not claimed within 28 days (except mobile phones and any other unsuitable objects).

What you should do is report it to the Plod, take the description and frame number, and if no one claims it it's yours, legally, after 21 days. They'll probably ask you to keep hold of it instead of cluttering their yard. That's how I acquired a usable Raleigh 20. -- del 8-)

How do you know it was stolen? Perhaps it was just "parked up."
