You could have killed the speculation stone dead by ringing Evans and
seeking information about the delivery the worst that could happen is that
they ask for the stuff back. And I thought that problem solving was deeply
embedded into the curriculum - clearly hasn't trickled down from high
schools yet ;-)

I did think of that, but there was no delivery note, just the school
address printed clearly on the boxes. They came from Dartford, only
there is no Evans in Dartford, probably a warehouse.

To save space, I unpacked them - God it hurt when I had to manoeuvre
my shoulder in certain positions - and left them in my classroom.

Not really. You should take reasonable steps to find out who they
belong to. That would mean contacting the company who delivered them,
or at least making the Police aware from which company they came from.
Saying that uou "found them" seems somewhat dishonest.

Personally I would wait a day or two, in case they are a legitimate gift
and a letter is in transit, and then contact Evans (or whoever it was)
and tell them they have delivered some stuff to you and ask them if that
is correct as you wasn't aware there had been an order made.

Perhaps a competition win??? Prizes very often turn up with no cover notes.
I won a speaker system a couple of years ago, it just turned up,with no
prior warning. I've heard of people having large expensive TVs etc arrive,
with no idea where they've come from.
