I know how you feel. Whenever I'm at the top of the queue at traffic
lights in a lane that has left turn and straight ahead arrows I move
towards the right hand side of the lane to let the drivers turning left
get past. I was astounded one day when a driver said "thank you". That
was the first time in ten years of me being polite.

I think the problem is that there's a lot of motorists out there who think that's what you're OBLIGED to do. They don't understand that you've every right to block their way and it's only by your good graces rather than compulsion that they can go about their business.

That said you've had a rotten run. I've only been riding these roads for two and a half years not and have racked up tens of thank yous for doing just that.

Yeah, I hate that road, I have been cut off there too many times...
I think this guy must have passed me at the forest road railway underpass, I usually take up the lane along that section.
I am sure alot of drivers on underwood get moody because of the adjacent bike track, I am sure you know (unlike the drivers) how [censored] the surface of that track is

This is exactly why I DESPISE off road paths! OK, that's a bit harsh. They have their place, it's a place where newbie cyclists can learn to control their machines.

There's a shared path along Centre Dandenong and it does me no favors at all. If I used that path I'd put myself at more risk, not less. Joining traffic and uncontrolled intersections are high risk activities for a cyclist, cycling along the road as a part of traffic is a low risk activity.

I here you EuanB, bike tracks make sense through parklands etc, but a bike lane or wide shoulder is a far better option elsewhere

I believe that VicRoads is looking at a cycling path down the middle of
North Road between Huntingdale and Monash Uni. Depending on how wide it
is, and how they deal with it ending, this could be a good thing. I'd
still prefer to see a rail link in that land, though.

That'll only work if they have a seperate light sequence for cyclists in the same vein as what trams get, otherwise you'll have motorists crossing the path of cyclists which won't be good. I can't see there being enough cycle traffic to warrant that unless of course they put a button in which a cyclist can press on reaching the junction. That would make for a lot of stops though, I'd rather stay on the road.

What you may not have realised is that many Land Rover drivers do not
fit the mould of the common garden variety of Toorak tractors.

No... not me. I find it difficult to get from Canberra to Melbourne during
commute times these days :-)

Sounds like a cyclist though. I often find myself giving cyclists the
friendly nod as I pass... when I'm driving the car!

Maybe he cut somebody else up. Somebody who hasn't yet got around to
posting in here about another 4wd [censored] that left him for near dead
in the ditch.
