Hi! I have a question about a stretch ... the calf muscles in my left leg are pretty sore. Mostly in
the area just under the meatier part of the muscle, towards the inside of my leg. I tried my normal
calf stretch, but I'm not sure how I can stretch this muscle. Nothing seems to work. Does anyone
know a way I could? Thanks a lot...

Try massaging it instead. It could be a knot, and if it is you'll just stretch the muscle on either
side of the knot and make it worse. I have a similar tightness in close to the same place, and have
made the mistake of trying too hard to stretch it. Now I just try and massage the knot out,
sometimes in the middle of a run, with much better success.Jenn wrote in message <[email hidden]>...

Thanks a lot, I will give that a try next time I'm out. Jenn

Once you see progress with the massage, you can try a contract-release (CR) stretch rather than a
static stretch. One reference: "Stretching & Flexibility", Kip Laughlin, 1999. Or, get a PT or Yoga
instructor to demonstrate and contract-release, antagonist-contract variation. These overcome the
stretch reflex. Do these when warmed up or after the run.Quoted message said:

I get mine massaged at least once a day, sometimes more.
