I can't get my BB out. I have a Tiagra drive chain and bought the bike new so I assume it's a Shimano BB. The left side comes off, no problem. I believe my right side is reverse threaded, right? I've resorted to all kinds of games involving hammers and other inappropriate tools. I do have a BB tool, it must be a good one, I hit it with a hammer and it still looks great, lol. Any tricks?

it has some tips for seized situtations. Also from that page in regards to thread direction:
Quoted post said:
THREADING NOTE: Most modern bikes use an ISO thread standard for the bottom bracket. The left side thread is a right-hand direction thread, which tightens clockwise and removes counter-clockwise. This standard is also called English or BSC. The right side (drive side) thread is a left-hand thread, which tightens counter-clockwise and remove clockwise. There are some exceptions to the ISO. Bikes made in Italy may use "Italian" threading, with both drive and non-drive sides right hand thread. There may be markings such as "36 x 24" on the cups. Older bikes from France may have right hand threads on both sides (35mm x 1mm).

Thanks, I think that will do it. My BB tool isn't quite the same but I can make that concept work! -
Well, I spent much of today working on a stuck BB on an old MTB. After several hours off and on, a pipe wrench, loads of WD40, and a rubber mallet, I finally got it. Thanks for the tips.

The problem in my case is that a screw in the bottom of the tube that holds the BB was too long. It was jammed into the BB. I ended up taking it to my LBS and they had a BB tool with a really long handle and with a couple of us holding the bike they got it off. Then I saw the BB was all torn up on the outside. I shortened the screw and now my BB works so much better. It must have been cocked in the tube or something.

Upon further inspection, I think mine was locked up due to some goo or sports drink that solidified on the threads of the BB. No matter what the cause, it's off (and a "new" one is installed.....)
