*lol* That is somthing I would like to know as well!!!

The first ten years of your life you try to be just like your parents. Then for then years you try
to be as little as your parents as possible. Then you gradually change in to them.

People crave sweets for a biological reason, and that is not going to go away. Likewise, lima beans
are completely utterly vile, and that is not going to change either. However, there are safe
    alternatives.

    * Sugar free hard candies are considered a "free food" according to the chart I was given. Beyond
substituting for candy, they can be used to temporarily distract one from wanting to eat. Sweet
and Low has a line, there are some made by Life Savers, and Go Lightly makes a wide variety.

    * Ditto for sugar free jello. It even provides the illusion of eating.

    * There are some good sugar free chocolates out there. Russell Stover makes a decent line of
peppermint patties, english toffees, etc. that you may be able to find in drugstores and possible
even conventional supermarkets. "Elite" is a brand of sugar free chocolate bar that can sometimes
be found in the kosher section of supermarkets. Note that they also make conventional chocolate,
so make sure that the one you are buying is sugar free. Also note that these chocolates are not a
"free food". Some of them give exchange equivalents on the back of the wrapper.

    * If you live in the Northeast, contact Grandma's Guilt-free Goodies (www.guilt-free.com); one of
the couple who runs it is diabetic. Their sugar free, fat free cheesecake is wonderful-- I bring
it to a party, and even the people who aren't on special diets love it until they are actually
told that it is sugar and fat free. Grandma's ships.

BEWARE products than claim to be sugar free because they are sweetened with honey, fruit juice,
fructose, or "raw, unprocessed organically grown cane juice". All of these are just types of sugar.
For this reason, so-called "health" food stores are downright dangerous. Also beware [censored] who
will tell you that "Oh, those artificial sweetners are worse for you than sugar" or "It's only bad
for you because it's been processed! This organically grown (honey/fruit juice/cane
juice/molasses/whatever) isn't sugar, because it hasn't been processed!" These people:

    A) Are not diabetic. If they were, they would be dead.

    B) Are preaching their religion, not fact.

I think we are born with our cravings. Some people crave sweets. I crave lima beans, navy beans,
kidney beans, buckeye beans, pinto beans, black beans, kidney beans. There is probably not a bean in
this world I don't crave except for maybe Garbanzo beans, unless they are in hummus. BTW, beans and
sweets both have carbs. Both will affect your BG. The only difference is that beans do contain
    protein and fiber.

When you crave sweets eat a low glycemic index fruit (almost all fruits are glycemic index) in an
empty stomach and without adding fat (this would slightly lower the glycemic response but would
raise insulin resposne and post-prandial) Fruits should satisfy your sweet craving, then you'll
probably crave for non sweet foods such as beans

  9. Similar to what everyone else has said, one way is to eat too much and get sick of sweets and one
way is to stop eating sweets.

Only problem I have with this theory is that I have recently learned that bears who eat sweets left
by campers will return to the same spot over and over looking for sweets, literaly starving
themselves till their fur falls out and they become sick.

A benefit of aging is that as you get older you loos some of your ability to taste bitterness and
therefore all foods taste a littel sweeter. I've seen it suggested that's why most don't like
    veggies till they get older.

There is one way you might try - if you can hack it.

Try avoiding ALL sweet things for quite a while and allow your taste to alter. Its the sudden rush
of sugars that the sweet things give you that your system misses. It will go eventually, if you give
it some time. But the phsycological yearnings will still rear their ugly head.

It worked for me. You have nothing o lose. Gwaaannnn give it a go....bet you cannot do it......neh

I realize that many people feel this way about Lima beans, but I don't know why! They taste great to
me. I loved them even as a toddler. Now you want to talk vile! For me, that would be asparagus,
    broccoli, avocados, and brussel sprouts!

I use flavored hummus as a dip for blue corn chips, the olive oil keeps the BG down. Tastes pretty
    good as well.

I have also found I can tolerate cooked dried beans pretty well, it must be the fiber and I think
the carbs are more complex that white bread white rice and potatoes.

I like all of these things and don't really know of any foods I think are disgusting. I've often
thought people are taught not to like some foods.

I remember as a youngster going my family out to eat with another family and one of the other
families children always asked his mother if he liked a particular food. I always wondered if she
had said yes, if he would have known the difference.

I know of another teenager who refused to eat anything except hamburgers or spaghetti. His mother
prepared them for him every day, and cooked a separate dinner for the rest of the family.

Growing up, I was always told that if I didn't like something we were having for dinner, to come
back tomorrow, we'll be having something different.

When you have dropped almost all the things you used to snack on from the menu, as I did, it's
amazing how much better some of those boring things like asparagus, beans, carrots, celery etc start
to taste. But then, I'm strange.

I started experimenting with dips and spreads based on veges like that, with cheeses, peppers,
chilis, avocados; there are lots of possibilities using savoury instead of sweet.

Maybe in some cases, but not in mine. My Mom used to make oatmeal for breakfast and she'd make
gagging noises as she cooked it. You'd think that would have put me off of it. Instead, I liked
oatmeal, unless it had raisins in it. If it did, I couldn't eat it. I hated cumcumbers as a child.
Now, I can eat them. I don't think they're yummy, but they are no longer disgusting. Actually, most
of my food tastes haven't changed since childhood. I do eat black pepper now and like it. My
daughter likes it too. I've always disliked ice cream, milk, fettucine, ham, shellfish, fish (except
tuna), whipped cream, sour cream, marshmallows anddsome other things.

I've seen similar things. One of my friends kept telling me how his son hate onions, yet he had
eaten food at my house and in restaurants that had onions in it. Then one day, I made a big pan of
vegetable lasagna and brought it to their house for dinner. My friend scream "There are onions in
here! He won't eat this!" I had pureed the vegetables into the sauce, but apparently a chunk of
onion escaped my immersion blender. Had he simply picked that chunk of onion out, his son probably
would have eaten it. Instead, his son spent the dinner in tears and refused to eat anything at all.
The kid's Mom was not at all pleased and said that her husband had created a lot of food phobias by
    such actions.

This reminds me of the story of Francis and the Bread and Jam. She would only eat bread and jam. So
finally, her Mother gave her nothing but bread and jam for a couple of days and soon she grew sick
of it, wanting to eat other things. My daughter is a picky eating, but much less picky than other
    kids I know. So I can't complain.

I was told that if I didn't eat it, I would just go hungry. And sometimes that was fine with me!

I'm not a big dip lover, but I do like bean dip and chile con queso or espinaca con queso. I've
found that I can use raw veggies for dipping and they're just as good as corn chips.
