small change said:What do I need to check before I start on this.
The Ti-HT has an ooollllldddd RS Judy on it ( XC Hyrdracoil) and I just had
the inspiration that I could throw the SID Race that I have on it. I pulled
the Sid off the Kona last year when I put a Bomber on it, remember?
I'm assuming the travel on both is about 80mm, no problem there.
How exactly do I measure the stems, and where exactly? Let's start there.
;-)
Why do you need to measure the stem to swap out the fork? Do you mean
the length or the radius?
A couple considerations:
- Is the head tube of the Kona as long as the Ti-HTs? If so, the swap
shouldn't be a problem. You can add spacers or cut down the steerer,
but adding material ain't worth it..
- Are they both Aheadset-style headsets? That is, does the stem clamp
onto the steerer tube, or is it one of the oldfangled wedge-type
setups? This should answer the radius question too, as the vast
majority (all?) of MTB Aheadset setups were 1 1/8" diameter (not
including some Cdale and Klein units.)
If the head tube lengths are okay, I'd say bust out the allen wrenches
and the rubber mallet.
