  1. I found some swordfish at Trader Joe's today (Joyce, it's
the one on Rand in Arlington Heights) and don't know what to
    do with it. Suggestions please
    :-)

    Thanks in Advance

  2. I love swordfish. I like my fish broiled or baked with a
little bit of butter and lemon. Swordfish having a strong
fish flavor should not be buried in sauces. imho.

Try this site for some recipes:

    using google)

  3. It has a more solid, steak/chicken like consistency which I
really like. You sink your teeth into SOMETHING. It does
have a taste, too, unlike very mellow fish but is not
overpowering like mackerel (which I also like).

I use my George Forman Grill (smallest one) for about 7
minutes but use to place it under the broiler on a lightly
greased baking sheet. Do not overcook - that's the same
    for all fish.

I will have to check out my TJ's.

  4. Thanks Laura. I didn't know it had a strong fish flavor.
    Thanks for the warning.

  5. Mackerel is one that I have not had in years. Yum. I am so
glad it is bed time because all this talk of fish is making
me hungry. I am also longing to get back to Cape Cod for
some real seafood. Maybe at Easter we'll make it up there.

In the summer I wrap the fish in tin foil with salt, pepper
and margerine and cook it on the grill until done. Mom
    always broiled or baked it.

  6. Yes it has a strong flavor. Right next to tuna, salmon, blue
fish and a host of others. My husband on the other hand only
likes the mild white fish like cod and flounder.

  8. That makes sense. So, if it flakes when I check it then
    it's overdone?

re: TJ's. I took their last box of instant miso soup (1
point per serving if anyone is interested) and I spoke with
someone who said they would order it for me. I told them
when I wanted to pick it up and they will call when it comes
in. I asked if they do requests like that all the time and
    they said yes.

So, next time you think you may be out of something, give
them a call and see if they can reserve some for you or
    something similar.

  9. I can't help you with the swordfish, is one of those fishes
that I don't care for. It's too strong tasting for me. When
hub buys it for himself though, he just grills it and
    squeezes lemon over the top.

  10. Isn't it funny how all our tastes vary? I don't find tuna to
have a strong flavor at all, to me it is very mild - much
like a pork chop. Yet I can't eat flounder, it tastes
    awfully fishy to me.

  11. I believe that it is done (not overdone) when it flakes
easily. Thanks for the tip at TJ's. I have never had anyone
offer to order or hold out of stock items for me. I'm
usually told to check back in a few days. I wonder if this
is handled differently by each store?

  13. I think peope tend to over cook fish. Often dry, it is less than
desireable. Also remember it continues to cook after removing it from the
    grill/oven or whatever.
