Either a Surly Instigator or Norco Sasquatch frame would be a good
place to start.

converting it to SS. It will not be easy to find a SS frame that is able to
handle your size. Some frames that I can think of...Banshee Bikes, Cove
Bikes, Evil Bikes, Norco, Planet X.

No gears, no suspension and not for off-road use. Sounds like you need
a touring bike. Is the bike for getting around, fun or fitness?

I wouldn't be so sure. It really depends on what he'll be doing. My friend
Scott has weighed between 330 and 300 for as long as I have known him,
approx 25 years. Another friend gave him a 1987 Bridgestone MB-1 in 1995
with an original gray Manitou on it. Scott still rides that MB-1 today on-
and off-road. He doesn't do gnarly stuff but the bike has done fine under
him. Bikes these days are notoriously overbuilt to cater to those few who
do 10 foot drops on hardtails, and to those who want to look like they do 10
foot drops.

That's why I suggested that he look at Banshee Bikes, Cove Bikes, Evil
Bikes, Norco, Planet X in my previous post...they are all overbuilt and able
to handle plenty of weight and punishment.

I have a 280lb buddy who's been on a Spesh Allez Comp for around 4
years. He's replaced the wheels (and LOTS of tubes), but that bike is
around 18lbs. Granted, it's a road bike, but it's a f#cking feat of
engineering. I'm 215, and the thing scares the hell out of ME. But it
hasn't broken into a million pieces on the side of a 9W descent yet....
