Strange, seems a lot of us are going to tenerife, beware the half day tour from los christianos,
we went and the cable cars were NOT running due to high winds, great excursion tho, fantastic
views especially above the cloudline, will try to get the website sorted and publish some pics.
I went to Tenerife last July with a view to visiting the summit of Teide. We hired a car from Costa
Adeje, picked up a permit from the capital a couple of days before, and reached the cable car
station just before it opened. Unfortunately, despite the crystal clear blue skies and relative
calm, the cable car operators said it wouldn't be running due to the 80 mph gusts at the summit!
I was very disappointed at the time, but looking back the landscape thereabouts is breathtaking and
it was still an unforgettable day. We caught glimpses of all the islands bar Fuerteventura and
Lanzarote on the drive up and down, though it would have been great to behold the summit panorama.
Last year we had another disappointing "top out" in Cyprus. We reached the summit area of Mount
Olympus only to be greeted with a massive British military radar station where no photos were
allowed and the highest point was off limits!
