Last year my triglycerides were 89, my total chloresterol was 170.
I did fast for all these tests. i did eat a steak for dinner the night
before. (a small one) would this cause such a reading.
Any direction would be appreciated! I am a male 31 6 feet tall and 215
lbs. I have gained 15 lbs the last 2 months despite eating sensible
and exercising. My father had a heart attach at 53 and found out he
had diabetes and a slow thyroid at the same time. Thank you for your
help!
Your HOMA value (Fasting Insulin x Fasting Blood sugar/22.5)
is in the Insulin Resistant range. (110 > HOMA > 30) Your very high
triglycerides support the conclusion that you are Insulin Resistant.
This is a sign of impending Type 2 diabetes. On average, Type 2
diabetes takes about 10 years to progress from first "hint" of high
Insulin Resistance to "Full bore Type 2 Diabetes" Your values are
those of one "well on the way".
It is in your best interest to fight this Insulin Resistance (boy,
you'd better believe it!)
Your weapons are:
1. Lose fat lb
2. Gain muscle lb
3. Exercise regularly and vigorously.
(A 2-mile walk each day is a good start)
Be very alert to your blood sugars. The important blood sugars are
measured at 2 hours after eating. You must hold yours down to 140
mg/dL or lower.
You would do well to buy a home blood testing meter. The Wal-Mart
Relion brand is about the cheapest to buy and use.
Many of us got the bad news when Full Bore Type 2 diabetes "burst
into our lives". This is a very unpleasant experience. As I said,
it is in your best interest to fight the high Insulin Resistance which
brings about Type 2 diabetes.
The more you fight, the better you fight, the longer and more
pleasant your life will be. Sorry to nag but the alternatives are
quite gruesome.
Good Luck
