...to the thread on 'running to alleviate depression'. Some of you appeared to be under the illusion
that I was engaged in battle with this particular demon. Sadly, I must report that my ego - being
the size of a small house - is more that capable of supporting me through any temporary hiccoughs in
my inexorable march towards world domination. But your replies were illuminating. Thanks.
Thing is, for some reason I'm fascinated by those that live on the edge of events, either through
choice or circumstance. Tramps, the homeless, the mentally disadvantaged, the crazy. How do they
cope? Where does their strength come from, why does it sometimes fail them after years of survival?
These individuals really do tap into areas of the human psyche that I doubt I even possess. You know
that line in the Bruce Springsteen song "I took a wrong turn and just kept on goin'."? I mean,
people DO that. How? Why? What brought them to that place? How do they live with their choices?
The answers to the questions that baffle humanity lie not in us, my friends, but in these people. We
just need to discover how to tease the answer out...
Roger.
