Several years ago, I used to perform on a fire unicycle. You can build
one yourself. However, please make sure an adult supervises if you are
young, or if you are not so young, think a lot about safety, there's a
lot that can go wrong, resulting in horrible burns.
I started with two juggling torch wicks that you can buy from
www.renegadejuggling.com. I think you can get them elsewhere, such as
perhaps from hardware store as tiki torch wicks.
I wrapped them around spoke crossings at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions
when the pedals are at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions, and fastened
them securely with picture frame wire (available from any hardware
store).
After testing to make sure the wicks are truly secure, you have a
completed fire unicycle, ready to ride.
To ride it:
1. Wear long pants made out of a relatively non-flammable material.
Dampen the pants from your knees down.
2. Put some white gas, also known as Coleman fuel (non-leaded, and not
automotive, which contains cadmium, also poisonous) on the wicks. Make
sure not to overload the wicks, as gas could spray onto the stage or
your pants as you ride.
3. Light the fires.
4. Notice smoke alarms in the performing area, because they can go
off, and ruin your show.
5. Ride in a way that you always keep moving, so the fire is not
against your leg for more than a split second at any time. Idling is
not recommended.
Have fun!
