Hmm....that sounds like what I'm after, but I can't find one with the gauge
up near the top.

yep that's a problem but the gauge does have a moveable red needle,
what I use...get close, set it at 100psi(use tubies) and then i can
see the needles match.

Well, that's true. I've been using it fine for 3+ years! 🙂

I'll probably just get another cheap pump to keep in my truck for travel.

I think I'd buy one of the cheapie penlights and tape it to the cylinder to
illuminate the gauge. Got my last one at a dollar store. For all yer going
to be using it, the battery(ies) should last a while. Pat

Our silca is still pumping after 15+. The older we get, the easier it is to
see the guage ;-)

My husband also uses it on the car tires..........

The standard Silca floor pump head these days converts easily to
schrader. They may have changed it out. Still, pumping car tire volume
with even a floor pump is daunting. I've done it a few times. Ugh.

Speaking of which, what's up with no gas stations having free air
anymore? It's 50c at my local, and a buck in the tonier parts of town.
Air, now a racket! I'm sure crime bosses have their cronies racing
around at night in flat black Fords, with cylinders of compressed air
hidden under the floor boards. Pssst, buddy, 10c a psi!

I think the idea is to keep car tires topped off with the floor pump,
not to pump them up from empty (or I guess 1 bar?).

Works great, takes only a few strokes per car tire to go up a couple
of PSI
with my Blackburn TP3.

I thought they'd be racing around at night letting a little air out of
people's
tires, then reaping the benefits at their legit air pumping stations.

Really. I bought one of those 5 gal. air tanks and fill it up one of the
few places in town that still has free air. It lasts me a month or more
at home.

If you live near a Performance store, any of their house brand pumps.
Thanks to their no-questions-asked replacement policy you'll never
have to buy another floor pump.

I bought my Hurricane well over ten years ago. I'm now on my fifth or
sixth (I've lost count). It helps that the L'ist of my LBSes is a
Performance store.

I found out over the past weekend that a store is within 90 miles of my home
and less than 3 miles from my gf home! Some things in the store are less
expensive than online!

It goes both ways--sometimes stuff in the store is more expensive than
on their web site. They'll give you the price match if you ask for
it, but then you can't also use the $20 off a $50+ purchase coupons
they send me every month or two.

Good point. It's probably not a good long term solution to shop in the store
always....there are times when you need it quickly (I get stuff from the
most times in only two days). But those coupons add up over time. Still,
there's something nice about seeing the stuff first-hand.

When you buy a Silca, make sure you buy a supply of replacement parts
and keep them handy. The body will last forever and the head will
last forever, but you will need to replace gaskets and washers with

Yep...and keep some band-aids handy to repair the rip in your hand from the
wire clamp that holds the pump head on the hose. It's conveniently placed

For the OP - get a modern, dual-head pump (e.g., Joe Blow), with a locking
head. Mine has the gauge up near the top of the pump *and* has the ring
dial with red indicator. Easy, convenient, no "blow offs" and no cut
fingers thanks to old-school Italian design.
