Thinnest rim tape

the rim tape every year or two and will deflate the tires between
rides to keep the rim tape lasting longer.

You can use Velox tape and rip the cloth bit off. I haven't tried it
personally but others say it works.

The Specialized red tapes are also quite thin. With these and the aid
of talc I can mount a previously "impossible" tyre/rim combination.

I've seen some use just 16 short bits of Velox. One over each spoke
hole.

My Giant TCR2 came with ultra-thin rim tape. It's cloth, but
extremely thin, like silk. I had to replace it with Velox because a
the rim cut a tube near the valve stem after very few miles.

Maybe some tyvek, or maybe electrical tape will work.

Remind me not to buy oversized rims...

The plastic tape by Continental is the thinnest I have seen (and mine
have been OK so far, installed about a year ago).

Do a google on Rox Rim Tape. It's light, and about the same thickness
as Scotch tape -- very thin.

Scotch Strapping Tape (the kind with lines of fibre glass threads
running along it's length) can be used as very thin, strong, slick,
and inexpensive rim tape. I put short pieces accross each hole with
the threads crossways and then a long strip all the way around the rim
so that each hole is covered by a grid of threads. I've been doing
this for years and I've never had a single problem. I think this is
as thin as any rim tape could possibly be and it's very inexpensive.
