Hi Gary--

I am origionally from SW Tier, Olean, NY. About 70 miles SSE of Buffalo.

I recognized your W2.

I used to go thru Albany when I was in the Navy over in Newport, RI. (Turnpike, many times
Albany itself). 1200 ft elevation?

I've been going nuts for about 5 months, trying to find the elevation of Olean, and Mt Herman,
just south of there.

Any ideas?

Ron, if there is a local airport you could enquire there as to the elevation. I would think this

Sorry for the late reply. Life has been passing on medical problems to me lately.

Thanks a whole lot for the links!!.

I'm checking out the Cornell link (at the very bottom of your post).

I guess I don't understand how to use it. I selected Olean, but just get reference data to the
system they used.

Thinking Olean was not done yet, I tried Albany, and got the same--

Maybe I just have terminal stupidity lately :-))

Any tips for me on this?

Oh, on the Mt Herman, I wonder if it is Mt Hermann? Yeeesch-- I lived at the bottom of it for 18
years, picked huckleberries and blueberries on it's slopes and top, until I went in the
Military, I'm feeling really "Senior Moment". It's kinda like remembering street names around
where I live. I know the way, so I don't memorize their name or spelling--- Thanks again---- Ron

Ron I have just revisited the links........no it is not you having a senior moment. The sites I
pointed to are not very user friendly at all. However, i am sure i can get you the info. But you see
there is more than one mountain called Olean and loads called Herman/nn.mon so if you could give me
a clue by providing the following I will have another go:

Mountain Range? - S. Rockies/Cascades etc State? - CA/WA etc Any river or other prominent feature ie
City - desert etc. Anything at all - even if you think it is obscure.

The only Olean comes to my mind is Olean, NY, elevation 1451'.

Mount Herman is just to the west of Monument, Colorado (which is along the I-25 corridor between
Colorado Springs and Denver). There are two peaks to Mount Herman, the northernmost being at 9070
feet and the southern at about 9000 feet elevation.

I can find thousands of references to Olean but not a Mountain. Are you sure it is not called
something else?
