young Nathan. The average speed would need to be closer to 46 kph to
put it in Alan Holmes territory.

FWIW I averaged 28.9 Km/h on last night's time trial (the hilly route at
Kirkcudbright) and finished in 32' 45"; Steve Martin set a course record
of 23' 45" which I make just over 40Km/h. He was certainly flying when
he went past me, and I was working pretty hard at the time.

mph+ when stationary.

I've mostly heard it used in the context of time trialling, hence
imperial rather than metric. But if I'm wrong, it wouldn't be the first
time...

I've only ever seen it used to mean 20mph. I don't know its origin,
though. The only reason I ever cared about this is that in the only 25
mile TT I have ever ridden (in 1985) I managed 1 15' 50" and thus had
the dual humiliation of not only being last to finish but also failing
to break evens.

I'd guess that an Audaxer would ride at evens or better for some of the
time if they were pushing a fast time even if the max average is 30 km/h.

I suspect both definitions are in use. The difference is, after all, not
very great. But when people I ride with talk about 'evens' they mean
20mph, 'cos we're all antediluvian here.

AFAIK evens is always 20mph. I don't know the origin of the term, but
it does go back into the mists of cycling time.

My Lidl one did that when I put it near my optical mouse. I never did
fit it to the bike.
