  1. Hi. First post. Found this forum after reaserching for my new bike. Was driving home with my wifes and my bike on the roof after our local triathlon, opened the garage and forgot the bikes were on the roof. One wrecked door and two very broken bikes. Looks like the insurance will come to the party so all is not too bad.🙂

I'm sure I am not the first to do this, please don't try it.

  2. 3 or 4 times I've left 1 brake disconnected, after repairs / adjustments, luckily never both

  3. I've got the type of bike rack which attaches to the towbar on the back of the car. I once didn't tighten the towball enough, went round a corner and saw the rack and the two bikes attached to it slowly swivel around. Fortunately I was not going fast enough for the bikes to swing around hard and crash into the car.
Promptly jumped out and tightened it hard. Always check that now; made me paranoid.

  4. not wishing to add to your grief but... are there any photos?

  5. No, only the insurance assessor took some of the bikes. As I live right on the golf course there were heaps of people watching my plight, so I quickly cleaned everything up and hid, only to realise later that I should have taken some pics as I can now see the half funny side.On a good note, I have settled on a 2007 Giant TCR 0. The wife a Giant OCR 1. Can't wait until they arrive.🙂

  6. Ahhh I have a van and contemplated getting a roof rack (there are 6 in the family) since we dont have a tow bar.

I was paranoid that I would drive through the mall parking with low roofs and forget so ended up getting a strap on that takes 3 bikes 🙂

  7. This is another time when a sun roof can help. The fact I can see what's on top helps to remind me that I have a bike there. I can imagine how I would do similar if I couldn't see the bike.

  8. Sunroof good idea in next car. Could have used one when I was bringing my new bike home. Very nervous drive with it on the roof.

So about my new ride. Giant TCRO dura-ace. After a very short ride before it got too dark, what can I say. Unreal. It's the business. I was floating along the road, and it virtually road itself up the hills. I don't know what I have been doing riding around on my old bike with these speed demons about. Can't wait for a nice long ride and a race. Here's a pic. Probably should have posted it somewhere else but just new getting around here.
