Im about to advertise a 22" Dawes Galaxy, 1995 model, 21 speed Shimano
STX gearing, recently fitted bar end shifters, new zefal mudguards,
recently fitted Conti Top touring tyres, aztec brake blocks, new
'specialised phat wrap' bar tape, very good condition. This is b.racing
green colour, and is a British produced frame (rather than imported
from Eastern Europe as later Galaxy's are) so it provides a much higher
quality ride. Rear pannier rack, all necessary braze-ons. Looking for
£325, but would probably accept £300 if you could collect it from me
(nr B'ham). Email me if you want any pics of the bike

And is not 1,000,000 miles from being a Horizon with a different paint
job and a slightly different component mix. They've been well reviewed
in the Rags.

Why?

Aluminium can be used to make good, bad or indifferent frames.
Steel can be used to make good, bad or indifferent frames.

Dawes/EBC don't specify rubbish, so they'll be fine.

EBC bikes are generally fairly good for the money and tend to get good
reviews. For many years their road range were Dawes Giros. The frames came
from the same manufacturer and were specced and built by EBC.

I had inside knowledge that they were expanding further south, but I
didn't know where. There were some mutterings about the idea of opening a
branch in London which would be a Good Thing in my opinion.

URC strikes again. I'm looking for a touring bike and was just about ask
here if anyone had experience of the EBC Revolution country. It looks
very nice but I don't fancy buying one blind as the nearest store is a
fair distance from *Here*

Can you let me know how you get on?

From personal experience of riding steel bikes and aluminium bikes of
reasonable quality in both cases: b*gg*r-all difference between them. In
this house we have both steel frames & aluminium frames.

In the cases of both frame metals - you can get stuff from cheap & nasty to
works of art that are gloriously beautiful to look at and ride but you need
a mortgage to buy and everything inbetween.

I succumbed. And very nice it is too.

The ride is pretty good - even on the cobbles round the corner from EBC.

This is the first Drop handle-barred bike I've had so the bar mounted
second levers are nice, Although riding on the hoods you can reach down
onto the levers without much problem.

The real test will be when I put some panniers with some luggage and see
how it handles but it flet pretty stable today.

Highly recommended - you get a lot of bike for your buck at EBC.
