  1. In my late 50's, the toe overlap, once only a minor concern, may cause the
end of cycling for me. My old 23 in. voyageur has slightly over 59 cm.
ft.car. to over come this problem I need about 62 cm. I have recently
found the Windsor tourist on the net, but with Jim Jones marketing skills
they seem to sell without knowing what the outcome may be. ( they offer no
reasonable geometry inf..) Is this the Bikes direct people? I would be
interested in buying an old voyageur in 25 in. frame or something like that,
or inf. that includes stand over height ft. and rear CRTs. on other similar
    frames thanks all!!

  2. email me direct about a tourer I have made by Mark Nobilette. 26 inch wheels, 4
water bottle, for fenders and racks, a true tourer with a 59cm top tube.

Ride what you like, but why on earth is overlap a problem? Ride with sandals?

Hi, not to be rude or to debate the issue, but could you explain why
the toe overlap is now a major problem?

I don't know about the US market, but frames sold in the UK for the mass
market (i.e. not custom geometry) should conform to BS6102, which
prohibits toe overlap. So a Dawes Galaxy or a Thorn should be OK.

Um... how does BS6102 know how big my boots are?

No idea! I assume there is some standard distance from the pedal eye to
the tyre, allowing for shoes and fenders.

It does result in some rather nasty geometry for small frames using 700c
    wheels.

Din 79100 assumes they protrude 89mm over the centre of the pedal axle.
Unless you fit toeclips, than you can build what you want!

That's the silliest thing I've ever heard.

However do they build race bikes? My 15 year old road bike with a 58cm top tube
and the chainstay brace has overlap. The newer, tighter formats must be
    impossible.

The newer tighter formats are for fashion followers...I see people - who
don't race and won't race and have never raced - on road frames where
they can only use certain undersized brands of "23mm" tyre because the
chainstays are so short that a true 23mm tyre won't fit behind the seat
tube. And the frame and fork give only cigarette paper clearances even
with these fairly narrow tyres, so any broken spoke causes instant wheel
rub on the frame/fork and either a long walk home or a call on the
    mobile to the spouse.

  11. Yes, it is the Bikes Direct people and Bikes Direct is the internet
sales arm of a big bike retail shop chain in Texas (and I think
Florida). Funny thing is, they are not listing these bikes on their web
site. Description sounds a lot like a Fuji Touring which is a good
steel touring bike. The low price does not bother me, since it is not
that low. I bought a Mongoose comfort bike at [censored]'s for $225 five
years ago and have given it heavy use (16 miles a day through the
riding weather months and through one winter). The only thing that
broke was the bottom bracket ($25 to replace) and some spokes; I
changed tires to skinnier ones. I expect that paying 2x as much for the
"Windsor Touring" will get me at least as good a bike. No worries.
