Had the pleasure of Beinn Dearg ( Torridon ) today. With a forecasted High over the North West this appeared to be the place to go and we were not disappointed. A pleasant walk in from Coire Mhic Nobuil car park, first through woods then open hillside. A good path leads almost to the bealach under the Horns of Allligan. a good steep pull up the west ridge and soon the crest of the ridge was gained. The views from Stuc Loch na Cabhaig are brilliant, specially over to Skye, and with Liathach filling the foreground the panoramas were stunning. We then made our way to the Corbett summit along the narrowing ridge but the best bit comes after Beinn Dearg cairn has been reached. A sharp descent and then some great scrambling on the little pinnacles and narrow twisting platforms. all too soon we were at the East end of the ridge on Carn na Feola with the most beautiful view up between Baosbheinn and Beinn an Eoin. we then took the recommended descent South from the last summit and found ourselves having great fun on the ledges and terraces as we picked and scrambled our way down the mountain.
Why expensive? On top of the £40 diesel to get there, I had an additional £60 and 3 points from the Northern Constabulary. Seemingly hurrying to get to one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland is no excuse !
The scramble is rather good.. with a very committing step. My overall impression of the hill was taht its not as fearsome as its reputation, and that it was a rather easy ascent. Views amazing, its the place to see Liathach.

Agreed. You quickly make the ridge with just one sharp pull. Found the descent much more challenging. i imagine it would be a much tougher propostion in winter or poor visisbility.

Got flashed this morning in Liberton... As usual at that point I was looking at the speedo not the road! and was hovering around 30mph.. could have been a hair trigger.. If so, that was an expensive trigpointing session.

I think there is a certain amount of description, both by different police forces and individual officers. Generally, if speeding by a margin of +10%, (or +15mph on motorways) above the limit you will be unlucky to get a ticket. Similarly, if speeding by +25mph, you will be lucky to get away with a fixed penalty ticket instead of a court summons.
Note: If you are caught speeding in Wales, and you are given a ticket, you are given two copies - in English and Welsh. This can be very amusing if you present the Welsh version with your licence, insurance and MOT at an English police station.

Don't forget that there is always a getout clause. If you can persuade a Government Minister (preferably the Home Secretary of the day) to be a back seat driver the chances of you actually being fined are miniscule.

Could well have been, ( silver Merc.) pulled at 8:30 and back on the road by 8:50 so it could have been the next victim if you were closer to 9. Done the docs to the local station now so just a £60 cheque to post to Dingwall tomorrow ! Cheers Graham

30mph according to folklore. You must have been close to an indicated 90, which is pushing it a tad on an NSL A-road ;-)
