Just over 12 months since we had a grand day out on Whernside in deep snow, my mate Les and I managed to have another grand day out, this time on Ingleborough. We opted for the quickest way to the top, from the lay-by just beyond the Hill Inn in Chapel-le-Dale. It was cold there, and it just kept getting colder! We quickly crossed the limestone bench of Southerscales, with some good views across the valley of a snowy Whernside, until the "steep bit" slowed us down a bit (me more than Les!) It was here that we encountered the snow, the steep ascent being quite entertaining with (in places) deep snow and some ice. Once at the top of this section, the wind (and wind chill) increased so that we didn't stay long at the summit. On the walk down, the sun came out and we were quite warm when we got back to the car.

Apparently they were losing sales in Eastern markets due to the source of the beef stock, so they now have a meat free recipe. Which means I can have Bovril again after being meat free for nearly 30 years - Yippee.

Bovril is now veggie. They changed the recipe to get round the BSE export ban and they have found that they can pass it off here as well. if you want beef in your Bovril try Beefy

Having been a Veggie for six years, and probably not having had Bovril for several years before that (as it always burned my mouth at the football) can anyone tell me if Bovil tastes much different to Marmite?
I always assumed that they were made out of the same stuff and was quite surprised, probably as a young adult, to find that Marmite wasn't made of cow.

Marmite - you either love it or hate. I love it. But as a drink, Bovril wins hands down. It has (at least to me) a completely different taste to Marmite.

As a toast decoration, they both have a strong tang. But Bovril is more salty than Marmite, which has a different (and stronger) bite to it. Vegemite is different again - tastes more plasticky to me.
I've never tried a Marmite drink, but Bovril is much milder when diluted like this. Still quite salty, but doesn't make your tongue tingle. A bit like a thin soup.
