  1. Just bought Trail Magazine and a small article (snigger) suggests you rub Vaseline in/on you Anus to
help lubricate the plop coming out.

Be warned - this poses a SERIOUS health risk! Under no circumstances should you user an oil based
lubricant. Petroluem Jelly harbours dirt and bacteria from the faeces, is very difficult to clean,
and is easily spreadable to other parts of the body.

The articles should have said KY jelly or other waterbased lubicants.

    Ok, now you can snigger.....;-)

Eleven pints of lager and a Vindaloo does it for me, and burns away any infection.

  3. Why on earth???? surely walking helps 'natural motion' - I guess some of the [censored] (pardon the pun!)
in compo doesn't help, if you're eating it, but why have an article like that??? I would think
Vaseline is OK - the main point about it is it rots rubber, so if you're into that sort of thing it
doesn't mix well with condoms, but really! I don't think KY is exactly antibacterial compared to
    Vaseline...

Have to say, last time such advice was needed for me, it wouldn't have helped - a corkscrew
    might have!

Also - in these safety-obsessed times - I think we should remember that petroleum jelly is highly
flammable. There may only be one chance in ten million that walking-induced friction could cause a
disastrous fire, but I want the government to protect me from it.

This just goes to confirm my growing suspicion that none of the folk who write for Trail magazine
actually walk anywhere, just sit in front of computers eating pizzas.

It is better to warn about dehydration, which is probably the cause of the problem.

KY Jelly is very versatile stuff. We were 240 miles from home on holiday when the gear lever pulled
straight out of its socket in the old Viva HC. It was a struggle to get it back in place, and it was
a rubber to metal joint. Finally I had the idea of using KY Jelly and it slipped in ok, which I
thought would get us home, where I could fix it properly.

When we got home about a week later I tried everything, but couldn't get the gear lever out of its
socket. Kind of scary, in a way........ :-)

Since getting a very sore ring during a bout of the [censored] in Africa over twenty years ago I have
always carried a small tin of Vaseline on any extended trips from home.

I guess I must have been seriously unhealthy for many times in my adult life then.

You think a normally wiped ring / crack does not harbour faecal bacteria?

In many ways the Islamic tradition of Istinja (washing as part of the cleanup) is far more hygienic
than the normal western practice (though many visitors to Islamic regions feel it is less hygienic.

KY goes off (gloopy mess) a while after use if not washed off. There are much better slippery
lotions available in good adult shops - but they tend to be flavoured.

Not with a sore ring you won't.

Current one - but I will have to admit I don't recall anal lubricants covered in any depth on any of
the advanced first aid courses I have done.

I had that problem with a dose of the s**** in Scotland, Vaseline didn't seem to make any
    difference?

You have to eat it ;-)

But seriously I have not tried internal lubrication, as may be advocated by trail. I advocate
external lubrication which eases the soreness that can develop from the regular wiping that
    accompanies excessively regular motions. IYSWIM.

Not being a regular Trail buyer (I get back copies cheap on the market) I'm wondering what the
article was about? Oh, while I think of it, there's a new ticklist for readers, count the number of
times the word 'Croydon' appears in print each month. Might explain the amount of mistakes lately!

It's not just the Islamic tradition. The Spaniards think we the British are dirty beasts because we
don't have a bidet in every bathroom. And we do, it seems to be a home for pot plants rather than a
    skid mark prevention device.

Anyway, how much does a few sheets of Andrex weigh?

    Have fun, Paul

The Islamic countries I've been to have been far, far less hygienic than the UK. The Spaniards
needn't talk either, from what I've saw of them, you are lucky to have a toilet pan in their
bathrooms. What a [censored] topic anyway.
