  1. Today was supposed to be the day I extended my long run from 5.05 tp
5.5 miles for the first time. In the last week I ran every day except
for Tuesday and Thursday, on those days I played some tennis. Thursday
I played my friend Steve, and we usually play only one set as we are
fairly even tennis players and a set takes about 30-40 minutes. STeve
beat me 6-1 in jusr 14 minutes, I just sucked that set, so we played
another, The second set I won, 8-6. The first set goe 7 games, the
second goes 14, what a difference. We were about an hour in and we
usually we would quit, but we dared each other to play a tie breaker.
He won the third set 7-5. In total we played an hour and 40 minutes of
hard (for us) tennis. I got up yesterday feeling allright when I went
to work, so I ran 40 minutes on the treadmill to keep up my training
miles for the week. This morning, keyed up for my longest run, I am a
mass of sore muscles. So, as much as I want to run, I think I am going
to wait until tomorrow. SO the horrow in the subject comes from the
fact that I can't run today, much different than I used to be.

I know this is jprobably ust rambling nonsense, but I had to get it
    all written down.

Sounds like a case of DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) from the tennis
session. Heck, you probably ran several miles playing tennis. Don't worry
much about the missed run, and just log the tennis as cross-training.
Skipping the long run once in a while won't hurt your training much. See
tomorrow: if your legs won't go easily, scale it back accordingly.

-Tony, who hopes he will take his own advice on the long run today 😉

Wise choice, Techguy. Tomorrow will always be there and it doesn't sound
like motivation is a problem for you, so letting a run go when you've
already pushed your body for the week and are feeling tired and sore is a
    smart move.

Hope you get some good rest and have a great run tomorrow.

    Peace,
    Brian

You know nothing about horror. I ve been running two years and only
run 36 minutes every second day. I guess because im in my forties. Im
highly motivated and never miss a scheduled run and always have to go
slower than i want to. If I do more i get injured. I would be crippled
for a year if i did what you did so dont play the victim because i am
    the victim.

OK, first off the horror part was meant to be funny. I was able to
follow my training plan every day in March until yesterday. Also, just
so you know, I am 42 and I just started running in December. I never
ran before that. Well, not for fun anyway.

Rest days are an important part of any trining program, ya
gotta be flexile as to when ya take them. Sometimes its mentally
harder to take a rest day than to force yourself to go out and run but
the smart thing to do is rest if you need to. Look at tennis as a
crosstraining activity, your gettin your exercise, using differant
    muscles.

This from someone who wants us to think runners are a bunch of
pussies, cause we don't hike up mountains all day long.
