Define "reasonable."
There are a lot of parameters to your question. Is mountain biking your only physical activity? How
much uphill can you find in your regular trails? What do you mean by reasonable? Just generally
healthy? Strong enough to race?--

Your question is so vague and there are so many variables, that it's impossible to answer.
What do you consider a 'reasonable fitness level'? What sort of riding do you do? What sort of
terrain are you riding on? What's the local topology? What sort of pace are you riding at? -

I did a recon ride today: gallery.consumerreview.com030104002.jpgOpen ↗
Dunno the mileage though. What do you reckon I do about logging my mileage?

Since you got a lot of jokers on this one, I'll bite:
It depends on the kind of terrain you're riding; I find time more relevant to mountain biking than
miles. 45 minutes minimum (preferably an hour or more), if you're riding every day, would get you in
halfway decent shape.--

moniqueJust generally healthy, just need to burn of afew calories, (i'm no hardcore biker.)
Start with a mile. Do that for a few days, see how you feel. Let your body tell you how much. Or
how little.Without any detail as to your current fitness level, trail preference, bike type, biking ability,
location, etc, etc, how can we reasonably advise you? When I first started MTBing after a long (ten years) layoff, I rode on the road for a month or so
before going on any real trails. And then, I rode easy trails for another month, going further each
time. After a while, I noticed my clothes getting looser, and my general energy level pick up. And I
was having a hell of a lot of fun, while getting out into the woods to smell the air, and watch the
birds, feel the sun and get the hell away from work and cars and other people.Follow what your body tells you, and back off when it says, "cut that out, [censored]!"
