Trek 1200

If ya gunna race, you're gunna want to get 105 stuff. The 1200 has tiagra stuff, unless their next year's model is upgraded.

The 1200 is also a tripple chainring. Do you need/want a triple?

Also look at the Felt 80...

I checked out the Felt 80 and it is really nice. Problem is, If i have to order it. Would anyone else recommend the felt 80?

You must first determine how much money you will budget for a new bike, and then try to get the best bike for that money. The Trek 1200 is a good place to start. I bought one last year and it was a nice bike. I especially liked the frame. I later upgraded my components to Full Ultegra 10(double). Then I bought a set of Bontrager Race Lite wheels. Finally, I got a FSA carbon K-Wing handlebar. Now the bike is less than 19lbs and is capable of racing at practically any level. The point is that it is a very upgrade friendly bike. Unfortunately I have more than 2k invested in it....so I could have got a decent racing bike for that amount right from the start.

You can get a nice Ultegra or 105 racing bike at bikesdirect.com for less than $1,000(Dawes, Motobecane, Windsor. Mercier). You might also check Performancebike.com(IronHorse, Tirreno, Scattante). Most of these bikes will include Shimano 105 or Ultegra components, as well as a light butted aluminum frame, and carbon fork. Not everyone can afford a Trek Madone as their first bike...so at least check out these online sources. Also check out the local shops and let them help you find the right bike. Do your homework.

That said...the Trek 1200, as well as the Trek 1500 are great bikes. They are triple chainrings in the front, as someone already mentioned. Most club riders and racers will probably be riding double chainring bikes.

I still think this or the F75 will be my next bike...

Considering two of my teammates just got a schmoking deal on Cannondale R1000s with full Ultegra 10 speed for $1200 US, the $830 ain't that good a deal.

First things first, if you are committed to a team, are there any team discounts? I would think there would be.

I ride a Trek 1500. I am/was on a very tight budget when I bought her. And I strongly suggest you try to fanagle an extra 170 bucks for the Trek 1500. You get better components. Better wheels, better derailleurs, etc etc. If you begin to get even more serious, you will begin to upgrade, and if you shell out the extra cash now, you'll be doing yourself a favor. I had no clue what I was doing at first (now I do) and it has cost me a lot more than it should have.

Def. ask to go for a double chain ring, NO triple. (You'll thank me as you get better)

When you can get carbon fiber bike on Ebay for around $500, $830 seems high.

If you can talk your dad into about $100 more, then get a Lemond Tourmalet. Much nicer bike. Has 2 different version, 105 9speed or 105 10speed. The 10speed one is like $940 or somewhere around there. Also has bontrager select wheels which will roll much better than the tiagra hubs on the 1200. Oh yea, since your shop is a trek dealer, they will have no problem getting it for you!
