  1. What's the best basic move for bigger triceps?

I've been doing tricep pulldowns with weak results. What would you do
for triceps if you could only do one exercise for them?

    Thanks

    Dips.
Do them with just your bodyweight to start and then
add weight by hanging plates from a belt or
holding a dumbbell with your legs.
Holding a dumbbell with your legs is hard but cheaper, asuuming you
already have some sort of access to a dumbbell.

  3. Benchpress. Isolation exercises are for n00bs.

    The one exercise would be:

    Skull Crushers
    2-3 sets of 8, 2-3 times/week

    Follow this with Triceps Pressdowns
3 sets of 10 (hold the weight for a count of one at the bottom)

    Oh, and I'm not a noob 🙂

Close grip bench with your index fingers inside the knurling. Do 3
    sets of 5 reps.

Yah know, as much as I like skull crushers, I do have to go along with
    this one...

The last time I did a set of these, my triceps hurt for 3 days!

    Inside the KNURLING.

    knurl ( P ) Pronunciation Key (nûrl)
    n.
1.. A knob, knot, or other small protuberance.
2.. One of a series of small ridges or grooves on the surface or edge of a
metal object, such as a thumbscrew, to aid in gripping.

    tr.v. knurled, knurl·ing, knurls
    To provide with knurls; mill.

Knurling is the fine gooves milled into the bar to assist in gripping the
bar. Try grabbing a smooth bar and lifting it. The bar slips right out of
the hands if you lift a heavy weight.

And on most olympic bars, the knurling is a standard distance apart. So,
when John was telling you to grip the bar in relation to the knurling, he
was giving a concise idea as to how wide the grip would be.

Knurling also provies a tactile method to center your grip on the bar. So
you grip the bars equidistant from the center and ends of the bar. For
    safety and comfort reasons.

Tricep *pull*downs? What does THAT mean?

But re Hanson's recommendation: Ditto. And - to me - it means about a
foot-and-a-half to two-feet distance between my thumbs.

    That's too far IMHO.

When I do close grip, I only have about 1 ft. between my thumbs.

I place place my hands just inside the inner knurling.

By comparison, mine is more of a compound movement that hits the tris
quite well, while you're isolating your triceps obviously. To each his
    own, iMo. ;-)
