[1] i.e., had the word "Commando" involved and were the favourite shoes of your pals for that very reason, which was all you needed in the 70s to impress a lad. I thought they were one with the compass in the heel?
I seem to recall that had soles that imprinted the tracks of small animals in the mud too..

Maybe earlier or subsequent versions did, but not the ones I or any of my cohorts had. They were just called "Commandos", and that was enough!
