  1. I'm considering getting a trainer for the winter months (can't stand cold,
rain, ice, bit of a wuss, etc, etc)

I was wondering if anyone has experience of using them and/or any
    recommendations.
I've been looking at this one
    http://www.wiggle.co.uk/v2_product_detail.asp?ProdID=5360009995 as it looks
pretty fly and is on offer at the moment.
    Any opinions?

I have a magura? basic. Cost a bit less than that one. Slightly
concerned about this 'high power, low speed' thing though - that's how
to knacker knees. Having said that, mine provides more than enough
resistance should I want to get up and stand on the pedals - well, for
    the moment, anyway.

Can't comment on that specific one, but get yourself a copy of Sally
Edwards? heart rate training for cyclists (definitely if you have a HRM,
if not, if you're thinking you might get one, get this book first then
sort out which HRM you want - it's less expensive than getting one, then
realising you want one that does more things).

Book has lots of ideas for things to do to make it more intersting than
just sitting there pedalling at something that feels about right in
front of telly. Intervals, loads of variations within each workout,
advice on putting together an actual training plan, and some pretty
nifty software on demo for 30 days included on a cd rom.

I like my magnetic one - when I can be bothered to put up with the boredom.
There must be hundreds of second hand units out there, buying new is not
    neccessary.

For a friend, I asked for a second hand one on this group. He paid £40 for
an as new magnetic type trainer.
