I'm planning on using a Sugino 46-36-26 triple on a road bike with bar-end shifters. Mindful of the recommended big ring recommendations on the Harris (Sheldon Brown) website I am planning on using a XT or XTR FD sheldonbrown.comderailersOpen ↗ front.html, . However, this same website notes that: "While rear indexing is the same for all recent shifters/derailers, Shimano fronts use a different amount of cable pull for drop bar vs straight bar controls."
If anyone has answers to these two questions I would be grateful: 1) Will my bar-end shifters work OK for this front derailleur, i.e. will they handle this different amount of oull OK?
2) I may end up putting this crank on a RSX-STI (7-speed) equipped bike as well. Will the FD on that bike (it currently has the 110 RSX compact road crank and corresponding derailleur FD-A410) work OK for this triple crank?

Bar end shifters are not indexed for the front (left) unit, so this is not an issue.

Yes, it will. In fact, that is the _only_ derailer designed to work for this setup.
I was not asking about the indexing, but wondering if the amount of pull was significantly different. Let me explain. As I understand it, road and MTB FDs take different amounts of cable pull to move the cage through its range of motion. Therefore it is conceivable (to me anyway) that a shifter would not work if its range was not enough to match the range of the FD.
Since no one seems to understand my question, I should quit asking and just check it out myself.

Shimano bar end shifters are *not* indexed for the front derailleur. Any front derailleur will work with these shifters.

Now I understand what you are getting at. Sometimes people not understanding a question is a sign to rephrase rather than quit 🙂
It will work. The differences are rather small and affect the side-to-side position of the cage when indexed but not the overall travel.

The difference in cable pull is small enough that it is _only_ significant with indexed front shifters.
It is not an issue with any bar end or other friction shifter, as I explained in my previous answer to your question.

Range isn't the issue.
Your shifter is friction-mode. It shifts anything fine. That's also true of Ergo fronts.
In the case of shifters with stops for a middle ring, the leverage of various front changers makes mixing/matching extremely difficult.
The cable travel, range of motion and shape of your lever all combine for a quite comfortable pull on any front changer I know - it never requires overmuch effort if that's where you're going.

\yes, w/o problem...altho a road triple front der would work as well with the setup you describe.
