Tyre fitment problem.

I have had this problem with Continentals in the past. They won't seat

right and the poor seating causes blowouts. It was a big problem with the
original Top Tourers which also were notorious for sidewall blowouts not
caused by poor seating.

I never use Continental now for this reason.

I've had the same problem with various tyres on various rims. It must be
partly due to a rim and tyre diameter mismatch (ie. one or both isn't
quite what it's supposed to be) but there may be a factor X which is a
mystery to me, too. Sometimes the same tyre can be worse on one rim than
another of the same model, even though both appear to be true. Beats me!
You might just have to use a different tyre.

But try deflating and pushing the sunken section of tyre up and the rest
down. Don't judge the fitting until it's fully inflated--the air pressure
rounds it out and makes it fit better; try over-inflating and deflating
and re-inflating a couple of times. Also check rim tape is not
interfering at one spot.

Tyre doesn't have to be perfectly round, though: it takes quite a big bump
or dip to notice while riding.

Then you'd get on well with a friend of mine. He has a gorgeous '82
Quattro rally car in factory works colours and a bare metal resprayed
635CSi :-) Sadly his two wheeled conveyance uses an engine rather than
pedal power. Ironic as he's a qualified Raleigh mechanic from a former
job!

I bought a Schwalbe City Jet Tyre Set from wiggle and one of the tyres
has the same problem. Only on the fourth attempt could I get it to sit
nicely in the wheel and managed it by constantly tugging at it and
flexing it back and forth while only very slightly inflated. I emailed
Wiggle to have a moan between the second and third attempt and got
back this reply;

I noticed however that when you hold the bare tyre up you can see the
shape isn't totally symmetrical but instead slightly mis-shaped with
regard the side walls not being totally even with the opposite side .
I would say as much as 20% of the circumference is like this. You can
bend it back momentarily to cure it so its more likely the tyre has
been squashed or poorly stored rather than made badly at the factory.
