(bicycling) to both countries.

Yes, any info is useful. I have Googled a bunch of places. I wanted to see
if there were any people online with whom I could ask questions and get
up-to-date info as well.

I do not have much more information than what you've found via web
search or via sites such as the Trento Bike Pages.

However, my plans are for a bicycle trip in May/June riding from the
Hungary / Ukraine border to Penza, Russia. If you go in April, please
post a trip report. If you go in September, I will post my trip
report and may be able to answer some of your questions.

Some things I've done and found during my planning for the trip:

1) Maps; I saw a good reference to "Road atlas from the Baltic
Republics to Siberia" on Herman Veldhuizen's bicycle web site
(http://home.c2i.net/veldhuizen/index.html) and ordered this road
atlas and also found a 1:750 000 map of Belarus/Russia/Ukraine
area.

2) There was a guy from Poland named Wars who posted in
rec.bicycles.rides a few months ago. Here is a link to that string if
you can't find it otherwise.

3) I just finished an interesting book about Ukrainian history (by
Subtelny) and also finished a first-semester Russian language class
last fall.

4) Citizens of EU and US are no longer required to get a Visa for
Ukraine, but there are still old web pages out there that will state
otherwise. Useful to make sure you start with official Ukraine
government pages or US State department pages.
