  1. Cadel Evans is informed that he's off the Tour team immediately after
Jan pulls the TdSuisse out of his ass. That timing is not
    coincidental.

T-Mobile was sweating it out to see if Jan has the goods to be a
contender next month and once they figured that he stood a chance,
they've thrown Cadel by the wayside.

This HAS to be to appease the fat one as there is no other
    explaination.

Now the Vino is out, why would it be a good idea to have Evans out as
well ? T-Mobile went from being the strongest team in the tour to be
a rehash of the same old squad that has botched the race and conceeded
victory to Armstrong year after year.

Instead of a legit multi-pronged attack to shake things up, we'll be
left with Ulrich following Armstrong around all summer and nabbing
second while an aging Zabel finished 2nd or 3rd in the points
competition. What a waste of the worlds biggest budget.

Thank goodness for Phonak. They're the only hope for anything
interesting...we'll up until Tyler crashes anyway.

multi-prong, schmulti-schmong. If Vino was riding, he'd be riding hard
tempo. Evans too. Ullrich's style doesn't stand to benefit from
attacks going left and right, because at some point, he's going to have
to accelerate to follow the chase.

Zabel needs to step aside. It does baffle me that Evans isn't going to
    be there.

This is a curious development. He is obviously in shape, so one can only
speculate that there must be some mental aspect of his role as a team
    player they question.😎

My head isn't up my ass. [censored] the sprints. [censored] the green jersey. If
it's Telekom's decision to bring Zabel over any other guy that is a
better tt/climber, they are showing their lack of confidence in
Ullrich's ability to get the win. Ullrich is being left high and dry.

He's the best in the world at finishing second.

What good is he to the team, is the correct question. He's in there
to battle for stage wins. He has a lot of fans. It's good to make
    the fans happy.

Hardly. Everyone but Zabel is there for Ullrich. Zabel is arguably more
benefit than Evans in the TTT, which is also important.

Why should they have any confidence in him? 1997 was a looooonnngg time ago.
Ullrich will be ready to retire in a year or two. With Zabel at least they'll
come away with a near-guaranteed jersey and maybe a stage win or two. It's not
like he's getting great lead-out support either. This team is not built around
sprint stages like Cipo's Doma-whatever team.

Ullrich should cut his losses and just do the Giro (pretty well known to be a
'lazier' GT) and the Vuelta. I think from now on he'll come up against someone
just a touch better than him (Hamilton, Mayo), especially in the mountains.

    Ullrich is the German "Poo-Poo".

    Whatever.

How do you come up with that idea? Evans is a very solid time trialler.

Do you really think he'll be able to beat Petacchi, Cooke, McEwen,
Hushovd, Backstedt etc? He has not looked llike doing so recently.

Err, wouldn't you think that leaving a German off of Germany's premier team
would be bad publicity? Zabel IS in running for the Green Jersey. I don't
know what world you live in if you think that Jan stands a tinker's chance
of beating Lance. They are equal riders save that Lance can out-accelerate
Ullrich on steep pitches and so all he needs to do is wait for mountain top
finished with a steep final section and just pull out 30 seconds here and
another 30 there on Jan. There's simply no getting around this.

Right, I guess you missed last year's TDF?

You probably thought the same thing about Indurain in 1996, duh...

Except that Jan could well beat Lance again in the flat ITT and Lance
did not look particularly impressive in the Ventoux ITT. Jan is more of
a constant speed climber which is probably better for the Alpe d'Huez
ITT. Thus he only needs to stay with Lance in the other climbing stages
and he should be able to achieve this with his stronger team this year.
I wouldn't be over-confident about Lance winning this year, especially
with both Hamilton and Mayo in good form and ?Heras also.

I think that if T-Mobile weren't that confident in JU, they'd leave off
Zabel and include another guy to work for Jan. With Vino out, they really
don't have a fall-back guy they can be completely confident will be in the
running. Evans certainly doesn't qualify as that just yet. They did include
Rolf Aldag on the team, tasked with lead-out for Zabel (of course, he can
and will work for Jan, too).

Zabel is the most complete sprinter out there, and his results in the
last calendar year are certainly not those of a man whose career is ending.

No, that's Ullrich. Zabel has won more races than Der Kaiser has ever
    started.

When you have a man who took green five years in a row, who races
tirelessly from February to November, who can get over mountains that
leave most sprinters dead on the side of the road, who has more sparkle
and charisma than the rest of the Fatherland combined, what a disservice
it would be to leave him out!!
