Ultegra gear slip advice?

Is it on the cassette that the chain is jumping teeth??

How many miles have you ridden the bike?

Derailer has nothing to do with it.

Sounds like you may have kept the old chain on too long and it stretched and subsequently trashed the middle chainring up front and a couple of cogs on the cassette.

Edit: if your LBS can't help you on something like this it's probably time to start looking for a new one.

Bike only had about 750 miles total. Chain is new. Slips on middle gears in cassette, no problem w/ Chainrings. Only occurs when in middle chainring. Perhaps a tension spring on rear d. is too light?

Old chain did this when new. Replaced w/ new one. Still did it. I concluded chain was irrelevant. Chainrings are true and teeth look good. Bike only has about 750 miles total.

There are a few variables.
Your explanation doesn't help focus on any one of them.
Has the problem always been there from the beginning?
Did some event happen and then the problem started?
Sometimes a bent derailer hanger can cause similar issues.
How old is the bicycle?
Have you tried swapping wheels with someone that also has 9 speed Shimano? .... did the problem follow the wheel or stay with the bicycle?
Does this happen when seated or more when out of the saddle?
Have you checked the chain line, RD alignment, bottom bracket mounting?
What have you eliminated and how are you sure that it isn't an issue?

Good suggestions. I'll start by going through the list one item at a time.
Bike is quite new, only 750 miles. Always did this from day one.
Occurs most when greater pedal pressure is applied - say up hill or out of saddle. No event occurred that I'm aware of i.e. crash etc.

Haven't swapped wheels as I've just moved to a new area and don't know other cyclists yet. This seems to be a very good course of test and I'll do so.

hangar appears perfectly straight.

Why then did you put a new chain a big with that low mileage? Good advice from other posters to try a wheel swap. Odd though because nothing should be worn out yet.

I had a similar problem w/ Ultegra 9...turned out to be cracked derailleur pully.

Sounds like a cassette problem. Sometimes when the chain get 1500+ miles it will wear the teeth on the cassette. Can also wear the casssette teeth quicker if you are riding in wet weather when lots of grit gets into the chain. But you have only 750 miles on the chain and that should not be enough to wear the cassette teeth.
