i recently purchased a trek 7000 hybrid. i was wondering which components would make for the best upgrades for easier riding and greater performance. i've already switched out the grip shifters for triggers and the rear deraileur is getting upgraded to whichever one is the next highest up from the shimano tourney which broke.

Lighter narrower tires/tubes would probably affect ride quality more than anything else.

I am curious why you didn't buy a road bike in the first place, considering that you changed essentially everything except the handle bars into road bike format. -

All I changed was the shifters becuase I hate grip shifters. Trigger shifters are standard on many hybrid bikes. The rear derailleur got replaced because the original one got caught up in the spokes and broke. I like the upright riding position of the hybrid plus I like that it has a big fat seat for my big fat ass. -

Bontrager Select wheels on my Trek 7700 take a road tire and it made a big difference for long rides. I'll put the hybrid tires back on for commuting, rails-to-trails and levee rides after the charity-ride season ends here in SE Florida. The road tire is a little less durable, however - I had flats right away.

You must be doing something terribly wrong. I have had 2 flat in the last, roughly, 1300 miles on road tires. I also weigh 190 pounds so I'm not light on them.
