I will admit to being someone who likes to cook their veggies in salted
water. Is it possible to impart the same salted flavour into steamed
veggies by loading the water with salt ? The friends I have that served
me steamed veggies are all "low salt" preferrers

In case anyone thought so, I was not being sarcastic when I
repeated "one of those collapsible things". Does the thing have
a real "official" name? It is a long time since it was bought.

I bought one of these just the other day at Wild Oats to replace an old one
that's gotten a little rusty 'round the edges. Something like this:

The cardboard packaging calls it a "'no post' vegetable steamer." Of course,
if it were the posted kind, that "no post" part wouldn't be appropriate
a'tall.

I need a new rice cooker (got my Hitachi nearly 20 years ago when I lived in

off), but I'm reading reviews of various rice cookers I can get here in the
US, and it seems there are a lot of people dissatisfied with their rice
cookers. (I don't steam vegetables in my rice cooker -- I just use it to
make rice, although if I get one that happens to be a really good steamer,
too, I might give it a shot.)

small, cheap, and does what it's supposed to do. hard to beat that.
i don't find mine difficult to clean.
