  1. Anybody see the article in the new Velonews by JV? Ever since the first
announcement of the positive finding, I've been wondering the same things. If
someone was going to try to frame a rider, is testosterone one of the easier
compounds to taint someone with? Will a doped handshake do it? A drop of goo
    in a drink?

  2. Is only Velonews covering the news?

Don't see it yet on Pez or CN.

They seem to have taken the conspiracy/tampering theory off the table,
    and
gone for lab incompetence as shown by their own documents. Which is
    not
bad if the documents really show that, but we haven't seen either the
    filing or the lab documents.

  4. I said at the get go, if the lab is proven at fault (y'all can get real
legal with that, but I think you have the point), then the French have at
least delayed the hip surgery long enough putting Landis' 2008 tour bid in
jeopardy. So still mission accomplished. Now the French have to worry (not
    much though) about L2.

Arguably the French, or some French anyway, have the most to
lose from a Tour de France winner testing positive. This is not
in ASO's interest. So far as ASO is in a rivalry with the UCI for
power within the sport, it might be in the UCI's short-term interest
(but maybe not). Anyway the UCI is not French.

The French also have a lot to gain from an American winner - increased
revenue from US TV, increased US tourism to France. JML loved it when LA
was winning. Shame all the conspiracy-theory yanks here can't see the obvious.

  7. It's chauvanism over sense -- much like politics of wishing the country
does poorly so the other party can gain power -- the party interest
over that of the country, not governing well but rather governing for
the benefit of the party. None of it makes sense but who said
    rationality controlled men's behavior?

Well there are several levels of cynicism. It is arguable whether a presumption
of purely financial interest is more cynical than assuming chauvinism. Though
the French don't have a word for that.

  9. Whether Landis is guilty or not doesn't get at the issue that there was
a breach of confidentiality that only fuels the conspiracies. IF they
had followed it by the book with both Lance and Landis they (whoever
you like) would be in a stronger position. Instead they've tainted the
whole process again and again. Follow your own rules or don't have
them. My feeling is that Landis will do far better than TH, who knows
that he can't come clean because he'll definitely lose that Gold medal.
    That's all he's got now.
