On Sunday, the Paris-Roubaix peloton had a near miss with a high-speed TGV train in northern France. The race jury elected not to punish the riders who had slipped across the tracks while the barriers were closing.
However, that was only the beginning of the controversy. On Monday, the French railway company, SNCF, said it will pursue legal action against the riders who disobeyed the law.
Not surprisingly, cycling fans, reporters, analysts, and even former professionals had strong opinions on the matter and took to Twitter to sound off.

I think 15 +riders will definatly be DQD after the race!

@jeremycwhittle @cyclocrossgal so true – it’s just what happens when everyone is afraid of their necks getting chopped. No leadership.

This was nuts. If UCI cared at all about rider safety they'd make an example here and DQ everyone they could ID. http://t.co/K1SUNHvF4Y

Dear cyclocross, please teach world tour road racing how to build an effing flyover so we can stop tweeting about trains. Thank you!

@fmk_RoI we can go round and round on this, but my point stands: adjusting schedules for trains on route is reasonable.

@Cyclocosm @inrng @tgouvenou need to fine the socks off all of them. Or tell each team they need to nominate one of their riders to be DQ'd.

Jumping of train crossing at #Roubaix a tough call for race jury. Could’ve been tragedies; also very difficult to ID/DQ ~30 riders, mid-race
