We rode around New Orleans, but I can verify what you say about the River Parishes. After a night out with river parish people it could be hard to get started the next morning. More than once I rode with a thick head and hoarse voice. We were there in the spring there were many weekend festivals along the way to tempt us.
Remember, all that alcohol consumption is a remedy for mosquito bites and 'general malaise" <g>...after consuming sufficient quantities of 'mosquito remedy', dealing with angry alligators or jealous husbands is not only easy, but fun <wink>.
I got caught in a park area along the Miss. River lock south of Alton... the gate closed automatically at 5.00 p.m (silly me, I thought a ranger would come and tell me to leave)...... I had to take my toyota corolla rental up and over the dike (traversing it like a skier, it was about 12 feet tall) to get out...... Though scary, it was the highlight of my visit to the Alton area... I wanted to visit (from ST. Louis) to see the Alton bridge, the building of which was a segment of one of the more intelligent tv channels a couple of years back..
