What's the correlation between ventilatory threshold and lactate threshold (if any) in your opinion?

In healthy individuals, the two are correlated (to a greater or lesser degree, depending on the study you look at), but the association is clearly not causal in nature. This is demonstrated by the fact that you can dissociate the two using a wide variety of experimental interventions, e.g., high vs. low carbohydrate diets, fast vs. slow cadences, interval vs. steady state training.

That would be your ventilatory (a.k.a. "anaerobic"😉 threshold then, not your lactate threshold as others have assumed.

I think we have been given conflicting information by "11ring". His AT does not sound like the "threshold" he can use for the comment he made below...

"He gave me what he called my threshold and then he tells me he is going to make me ride at 15% above this level for 90 minutes. The figure he gave me (threshold+15%) seems easy but the threshold figure then seems way too low. I thought even a few minutes above your threshold should hurt. This threshold was 78% of VO2max. he said i should be able to raise the threshold to above 80% quite easily."

  3. He also defined it as the lactic threshold- i.e where lactic acid begins to be produced faster than it can be remove. He used two different methodologies and got the same answer.

Maybey this helps- my hour power is approx 260-270 watts, the figure the doc gave was only approx 210-220 for his definition of lactic threshold. So next tuesday Iwill be doing 245 for 90 mins, which he says will be hard but achievable.

  4. Was one of those figures your aerobic threshold? Lactic Threshold should be the same for all durations of time. I don't know what the 210W is. My Anaerobic Threshold power was 275W, and aerobic was 240W...
