Take the battery out, stick it in the airing cuboard or somewhere warm
(not hot). It might still work.

Decending Burgess road this evening at 30 mph, guy on a racer drafting
behind me, woman in a golf decides to pull out half way accross the road
from Aster road, even though she can't go anywhere as traffic is waiting
to enter the road from the other side.
Now the land-rover has disc brakes alround and stops pretty well
(thankfully), however I'm only too aware of the drafter behind, so I
pull to the centre line whilst braking HARD, leaving him 6 feet of space
to my left and hoping he looks up before he hits anything.
He JUST made the stop before hitting the golf, however she doesn't care
she's in a hurry, now the one car in her way is an MGF, the woman in it
moves it allowing the cause to escape, and in the process clips the back
wheel of the drafter, bending the rim and springing it from the frame.
Being a witness I wait for them to clear the road then pull up out of
the way and walk back.
Woman from MGF is now appologising, and blaming "that stupid cow in the
golf" for starting it all.
I hand my card to the cyclist and help him put the wheel back in the
frame, whilst she writes down her details for him, offering to pay
whatever it needs to sort it.
As we leave he tells me he's supposed to be cycling from Geneva to Nice
next week....
Looks like atleast a rim truing is required, possibly a new rim, hope
the frames OK, its a long way he's hoping to cycle!

And that's why.

I'm not saying that the golf driver's not at fault however the cyclist
really didn't help himself. Number one rule for operating any vehicle
is to travel at a speed in which you can stop safely should something
untoward happen.

Uncontrolled intersections are one of the most dangerous things for a
cyclist, it pays to travel at a speed where you can check whether
someone's going to pull out on you or not.

The cyclist was very lucky that he was tailgating you and not someone
with less road awareness otherwise he'd probably well and truly have
planted himself.
