Where I work there were 14 cyclists at peak in summer. For the last week
it's been just me.

Earlier this week when I didn't fancy the wind I just walked. But then I
have a very short commute (though that doesn't stop a lot of people
driving....)

FSVO "very short". It's a good couple of miles, which is quite a trek
compared to the 1km or so I have to drag myself. A former neighbour
working in the same place as me did drive though...

Two of my club mates got blown off their bikes when we went over the Humber
Bridge last night. Luckily it wasn't over the edge.

roof on Monday after the wind took the tarps away.

Riding in was on the interesting end of the scale..

I normally wouldn't let the weather deter me but I've had a nasty cough
I just can't shift. Therefore this week I have been mostly taking the
bus.

I am given to believe there were some strong winds within 5 miles of
where I sit at around 11am yesterday (at the other end of the 302 bus
route).

We saw some lightning and had dark skies but apart frm pizza boxes and
leaves I saw no extra detritus.

In central London it was very gusty and I was very nearly taken out by
an idiot cycling along holding an umbrella in one hand.

I rode every day, 17 miles in to town, and 17 miles home. Got a little wet on a couple of occasions, but nothing that wasn't sorted out by a hot shower at work, and putting my kit in the boiler room!

Those gale force winds were fantastic on the homeward leg. I live ENE of town, and prevailing winds sweep me home at 25+mph!

I actually thought there were fewer cars. I assumed that economic activity was dying down as people started skiving and lounging around for their crimbo fat-accumulation process.

Surprisingly not much problem cycling down to Exmouth. I do it twice a
week.

However, Saturday night last the wind did a 180 degree shift round our
square, got under our porch, and lifted a glass pane out, drove it 5m
and smashed it into the lanmp post. 1/3 of the glass travelled a further
7m (laminated glass).

I was glad no one was arround at the time.
