A belated Happy Birthday. I agree about the wedding being
the bride's day. I was at my nephew's wedding a few years
ago when I thespian sister in law took her grand daughter up
the the microphone and sang happy birthday to SIL's
grandmother. Granny had been dead for almost 30 years. Some
people just have to have attention.

I have, more usually anniversaries. It's the mark of a
thoughtful bride who is NOT a Bridezilla, hoarding her
"Special Day". It sounds as though the family thinks a
lot of you.

Reminds me... a guy I work with named John was to attend his
uncle's wedding to his high-school sweetheart yesterday.
John is gay; his uncle had moved away from Arkansas years
ago. So when John (the man I know) moved back to AR from ME,
word got back to the high-school sweetheart: John moved back
to [city] and he's GAY! She thought they meant his uncle.
She said John is gay?! LOL

When his uncle finally did move back they hooked back up
and, long story short, they got married yesterday after
nearly 40 years, with the gay nephew, John, in attendance 🙂

You're right, that was just plain tacky - unless it was
the bride and groom's way of remembering his great-granny.
It's possible that he had a relationship with her. I had
great grandparents (one on each side of the family) when I
was a kid.

I did, but didn't go into minute detail. It ended up with no
sausage, it had chicken instead. The rice was a too wet for
me, but cooking rice for 100 is problematic anyway. I'm not
a fan of feeding people en mass, so I'm the lone voice who
suggested hors dourves instead of a sit down meal.

The wine worked well... don't remember which red they chose
though (the label was a black diamond with gold lettering
and I think it was a shiraz, if that helps). I drank the
white. We were seated at a table of very interesting people,
so we also had lots of good conversation and laughs.

I flew in from Japan to be a bridesmaid to one of my oldest
and closest friends. Because I was in Japan during the
planning, I didn't get to help out at all with the
preparations or anything. I felt kind of bad that I didn't
do more. But right before I left the reception, the band
started playing "Happy Birthday" and all the guests started
to sing--to me! My birthday was just two days after the
wedding. I was surprised, and rather embarrassed,

That describes my friend--she's one of the most thoughtful
people I know and one of the most caring, as well. She would
much rather give someone else special attention that receive
it, herself.

groom knew nothing about in advance and were not amused.
We all thought that it was bizarre.

Wow,

that is so nice to stop the wedding to sing a song to you. I
agree that it is a wonderful compliment to you all of how
much of an impact that you have had on their lives.
