It happened today.... a long time and very good friend's
oldest daughter's wedding (which was the subject of the
paella thread).
The wedding was beautiful, the reception was in a quaint
clubhouse that resembles a log cabin - with beautiful
grounds, a jazz trio or quartet... I didn't count. The
tables were set up semi-formally inside and outside. The
bride, groom and their parents sat at one table (I was
across the isle at table two).
We heard heartfelt toasts from Father of the Bride, Mother
of the Groom, Best Man and Maid of Honor. Just before the
Mother of the Bride did her thing (more of a presentation
than a speech)... the bride came out carrying a plate with a
cupcake and a candle - announcing that there was a birthday
today (I thought I heard her say "a couple of birthdays)!
She gave the cupcake to me and I looked around for the other
person(s), then the entire wedding reception party sang
Happy Birthday to ME! Oh, my goodness... I almost cried!
That was soooo sweet! I've never been to a wedding reception
where they honored anyone other than the bride & groom.
