Good ideas. Thank you.
I'm working on focusing my attention on healthier foods, but
it's slow going. I like doing the substitutes before the
food arrives because it's much easier not to eat the junk
that way. The desserts are hard to deal with since dh has a
second stomach specifically for desserts *rolls eyes*.

Eating out can be difficult. I guess you have to retrain
your way of
thinking.
Quoted message said:Try to plan ahead if you can, have an idea in your head as
to what you
will order
Quoted message said:... and stick to it. I found that if I convinced myself
early in the day
that I
Quoted message said:was going to have fish or chicken ... then it really did
sound good when I
got to
Quoted message said:the restaurant (kind of like planning dinner ahead). When
I am handed the
menu, I
Quoted message said:don't usually read the whole thing ... I go right to the
seafood or
poultry
Quoted message said:sections, or look for the *heart healthy* type sections
... don't even
look at the
Quoted message said:appetizers or deserts. If I don't give myself the chance
to think about
it, I
Quoted message said:don't cave in or change my mind. Maybe you need to move
out of the
celebration
Quoted message said:frame of mind ... or at least making the food the
celebration. Focus more
on WHY
Quoted message said:you are out, the food is only extra. Enjoy the occassion
and the company,
they
Quoted message said:are the highlight of the occassion ... not the food. And
don't ever be
afraid to
Quoted message said:make special requests, such as eliminating an item from
the dish (if it's
not
Quoted message said:their you can't eat it). I haven't found a restaurant yet
that has been
unwilling
Quoted message said:to substitute or make changes for me. My family has gotten
so used to my
requests
Quoted message said:now, it's second nature. Hub loves to go out to breakfast
Sunday morning
... we
Quoted message said:do it maybe once or twice a month. I have no problem
asking for my omelet
to be
Quoted message said:made with egg substitute. It isn't any different than a
person that has
an
Quoted message said:allergy to specific items.

It was a rough week. I journaled this week, but only
included what I ate and not portion sizes.
I went out to lunch at work a few times this week and
didn't make healthy choices, but at least I didn't eat
everything on my plate. I don't know what it is with me,
but every time I go out to eat it's like it is a
celebration of some sort for me, so I indulge and eat
something that I wouldn't normally eat.
How do you all deal with going out to dinner?
