  1. ...to get away from the [censored] weather, although the weather was almost as [censored] but 20
degrees colder. Warning, warning, WARNING, no mtn bike content here although it does involve a
    two-wheel sport.

Helped my bro run a check for my old motorcycle club's annual Hare and Hound at the Johnson
    Valley SVRA.

On the way out to the location of my volunteerism I passed by the pits, a place that would be much
more hectic than in this picture before the start:

    homepage.mac.compits.jpg

Did I mention the weather was still pretty [censored] out in the desert?

Here's a short video (just playing around with my digi-cam) of the drive out, it's an AVI in
whatever codec that Canon uses in their cameras. If you check it out keep the sound down as this
ain't anywhere near the quality of any of the video contributors to a.m-b. Although the song on the
    stereo is excellent:

I got to the appointed place an hour early so I had a chance to check out the local flora (or is
that fauna, I can never remember):

    homepage.mac.comprickly.jpg

Here's the man we were waiting for, 1st overall (3/4 of the way through the race):

    homepage.mac.com1st oa.jpg

Luckily I ran into a Bedouin tribesman earlier in the day who offered to help me out at the
checkpoint in exchange for, well, nothing. Here he is pointing out a speck of mud on this guys
    front fender:

    homepage.mac.combedouin2.jpg

And again, I don't know why the guy was so obsessed with specks of mud:

    homepage.mac.combedouin1.jpg

And notice in the last the Bedouin's modern form of transportation, no camels here.

And that concludes this entirely off-topic weekend.

Back to your regularly scheduled dumb fat person posts, something of which I'm very familiar.

that's way more exciting than mine: washing the cars, sweeping out the garage, quilting and then
running out of extra virgin olive oil while building a spanokopita.

I took a little trip up Mt. Wilson ( mtwilson.edumtwilson.edu ) yesterday. That place is so
beautiful... oh, I can't wait to ride down it!!!

    I got about 10 miles out at Windridge today. Some shots can be found here;

    I think I need a better camera.

Actually, there was. Just tiny white patches above 4500', but a good 5" or so on the ground at the
observatory with light snow still falling. People were pulled over in their cars to take pictures of
    themselves in the snow banks.

First time I've been up there... was amazed how lush and thick the forest is in that whole area. Now
I totally understand how people can have bears, deer, cougars, etc., walking through their
backyards. It's a trip, and downtown Pasadena just down the road.

Which still sounds more fun than getting over the stomach flu, which is what I've been doing.

I'd turned the old Marin into a "cruiser", by adding some 3.5" riser bars and Michelin Rock tires.
This combo makes it comfy enough for cruising around town, and capable enough to ride fireroads. As
my new(er) bike sits in the garage crusted in mud from the last ride, I've been on the old bike
three rides in the past four days. Today I started out on a ~8 mile road ride, that turned into a 15
    mile road/fireroad ride.

I climbed up to the neighborhoods of the super-yuppies, million-dollar houses with spectacular
views. It was a beautifuly, fairly warm, sunny day
    - which doesn't happen a lot in Oregon this time of year. Lots of drivers were out to get their
piece of the view - Porsches, BMWs, convertibles, and motorcycles blew past at harrowing speeds.
Roadies were everywhere, ignoring me even more on the cruiser. I have never understood why people
    enjoy this road riding [censored].

I hadn't planned to hit the fireroads since they were still a muddy mess, but ended up detouring off
twice. It was nice to be off the road!
