Re cycling, I do the same journey every day. I could set up a cron job to post the ride report if
you like ;-)

I do that (well, killfile Smith and any subthread that follows his posts - after having read what he

TR - Daybeforeyesterday ... emergency quick pedal ...

Had arranged a lift to get to concert where I was singing. My lift was from between two and three
miles away; decided to walk there over the moor. Togged up in full waterproofs over the
penguin-suit, and set off with 40 minutes for the walk. But the first part of that walk is alongside
the main road, and I was too blinded by headlights to see the path - which is just slightly below
road level, and quite muddy in wet weather. So after ten minutes, turned back home, dashed upstairs
to change shoes and repack music into pannier, jumped on bike ... mad rush (along the road).

Bike spent night in the garden of my favourite pub, and got thoroughly rained on - especially 'cos
I'd locked it to a drainpipe and water was pouring down from the gutter above. Picked it up this
morning and proceeded to Tescos for shopping. Nice mix of short-sharp-shower and sunny weather for
riding across the moor, but I stuck to the roads to avoid damaging the soggy ground.

Hmmm, that's not exactly exciting as a TR either, is it? Guess I won't make a habit of posting them
routinely.

Well I'm about to go and do a bit of windsurfing so no riding for me today.

Tomorrow is not sorted yet and it may go one of two ways:

1, Solitary road ride, miles dependant upon fatigue from today. Not worthy of comment unless
something particularly amusing happens or, God forbid, something bad happens.

2, Mtb riding in the Peaks with friends. If all goes well I'll be too knackered to bother posting
and the PC shorts out in the bath anyway:-)

Then back to work on Monday for a rest.

Wishing everyone else has a safe and enjoyable weekend ;-)

I just plonk the tedious threads (helmets, speed etc), PS is also personally plonked.

As for ride reports, since everyone in this house is suffering from a nasty tummy/cold bug, and the
weather is dreadful, we won't be riding anywhere for a few days at least.

Well, it's just stopped raining.

One good thing that Huge did was to get uk.rec.driving set up, to try and get the endless and
tedious speed camera/limits discussions out of uk.transport. Can I suggest that anybody who wishes
to discuss these things does so there?

All you are doing is giving him more airtime. If you didn't reply we would have far fewer of his

Personally, I'm fairly ambivalent regarding the speed debate. The only key guideline I really follow
closely is to ignore any and all extremiste positions from *either* side. The truth usually lies
somewhere inbetween.

I remember when you gave up x posting to uk.transport. That was good for me. I bet it lowered your

Good luck. Lets hope you're up and about in no time. Have you seen those artificial hips from
Campag? They've got wee grease ports to keep everything running smoothly. You just end up with an
extra nipple in an odd place.

I think both points of view have some merit. I suspect that most visitors do not bother with
kill-files and filters (and certainly newcomers will take some time to set them up). One strategy
that may be useful is to reply with a cross-post to uk.tosspot or elsewhere but then cut the post to
u.r.c thereafter.

I disagree. Those who wish not to hear the argument can tune out very easily. It doesn't even need a
killfile, all one needs to do is press the next message button when the headers show it comes from

Well, not to counter any threads, which I actually think _do_ serve a purpose in attempting to
educate the different 'sides' to the others' needs ...

We went cycling around Ladybower, Derwent and Howden reservoirs today.

[censored] it down, got very wet, very cold, very hungry, very covered in mud, very quickly. We also got
back to the Landrover and had a great time drying out, feeding, drinking and generally warming up
before coming home again ... 😉

We didn't make it all the way around all three, the kids were revolting ... 😉
